Have you ever made the leftover dal paratha? It’s the perfect solution for using leftover dal, and making something new and healthy with it. Whenever i have any leftover dal, i end up making Leftover dal paratha for breakfast, it’s quick, easy and very very tasty and i love this paratha with the punjabi chatpati green chutney.

For this recipe i am using Leftover toor dal, but you can use whatever dal you have in your fridge, in fact you can even add any leftover vegetables also to this recipe, and this can be a great lunch box recipe.

Ingredients for making the Leftover dal Paratha Recipe

  • 1 cup ‏Any Left over dal (toor dal )
  • 1 cup ‏Roti ka atta /Whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup ‏Besan/ Gram flour
  • 1 ½ medium size ‏Onion
  • 1 tsp ‏Ajwain / Carom seeds
  • 1 tbsp ‏Dhanya / Cilantro
  • 2 ‏Green chillies
  • ½ tsp each ‏Dhaniya jeera powder / Coriander / cumin powder
  • ½ tsp ‏Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp ‏Garam masala
  • ¼ tsp ‏Amchur powder/ Dry mango powder
  • as per your taste ‏Salt
  • 1 tbsp ‏Oil
  • for roasting ‏Ghee / Clarified butter

Prepping for the Leftover dal Paratha Recipe

1)Dice up the vegetables keep aside in a bowl.

Method for making the Leftover dal Paratha Recipe

1)In a big flat mixing platter, add the whole wheat flour which is roti ka atta,Followed by the Gram flour which is besan.

2)Then the diced onions, dhania jeera powder which is coriander cumin powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, the garam masala and amchur powder which is dried mango powder green chillies ,dhania, carom seeds which is ajwain

3)and then the cup of leftover dal and a little bit of salt and now using clean hands we are going to knead a soft dough.

4)And as I mentioned any leftover dal works for making the paratha

There is a possibility that you might not even need to add any extra water to knead the dough, and just in case the dough becomes too soft just add a little bit of dry wheat flour to it.

5)Once you are done kneading the dough and once it’s nice and soft, take a little bit of oil in your hand and apply it on the dough

6)Time to  make round balls of out of this dough almost the size of a big lime.

7)Once all your dough balls are ready take one of dough balls and dab it on the sprinkled dry flour and use a rolling pin which is belan to roll the dough ball to a circle of about 6-7 inches in diameter.

8)After the dough is rolled out and it’s perfect Not too too thin and not to thick

9)Time to start roasting, heat up the griddle. And once hot start spreading a little bit of ghee and

10) then land dough disc on top and cook for 1 minute on medium flame.

11)After 1 minute let’s flip it and apply some ghee cook for 1 minute,

12)and then flip again. Apply ghee on this side as well and cook for a some more time

13)Once you see little golden brown spots on both sides time to remove the paratha from the griddle and put in the serving plate.

This Paratha goes really well with the Punjabi Chatpati Green Chutney.
